TITLE:
TheWebForum Script Insertion and SQL Injection Vulnerabilities

SECUNIA ADVISORY ID:
SA18392

VERIFY ADVISORY:
http://secunia.com/advisories/18392/

CRITICAL:
Moderately critical

IMPACT:
Security Bypass, Cross Site Scripting, Manipulation of data

WHERE:
>From remote

SOFTWARE:
TheWebForum 1.x
http://secunia.com/product/6771/

DESCRIPTION:
Aliaksandr Hartsuyeu has discovered two vulnerabilities in
TheWebForum, which can be exploited by malicious people to conduct
script insertion and SQL injection attacks.

1) Input passed to the username field when logging in isn't properly
sanitised before being used in a SQL query. This can be exploited to
manipulate SQL queries by injecting arbitrary SQL code.

Successful exploitation requires that "magic_quotes_gpc" is
disabled.

2) Input passed to the "Website" field when registering isn't
properly sanitised before being used. This can be exploited to inject
arbitrary HTML and script code, which will be executed in a user's
browser session in context of an affected site when the malicious
user data is viewed.

The vulnerabilities have been confirmed in version 1.2.1. Other
versions may also be affected.

SOLUTION:
Edit the source code to ensure that input is properly sanitised.
