DESCRIPTION:
Sun has acknowledged some vulnerabilities in Sun StorEdge Enterprise
Backup and Solstice Backup, which can be exploited by malicious
people to cause a DoS (Denial of Service) or compromise a vulnerable
system.

The vulnerabilities have been reported in the following products:

  • Sun StorEdge Enterprise Backup versions 7.0, 7.1, and 7.2.
  • Solstice Backup versions 6.0 and 6.1.

SOLUTION:
Apply patches.

– SPARC Platform –

Sun StorEdge Enterprise Backup Software (EBS) 7.1:
Apply patch 116826-06 or later.

Sun StorEdge Enterprise Backup Software (EBS) 7.1L:
Apply patch 116828-04 or later.

– x86 Platform –

Sun StorEdge Enterprise Backup Software (EBS) 7.1:
Apply patch 116827-07 or later.

The vendor recommends users of EBS 7.0 and earlier to upgrade to a
later release and then apply the associated patches.

A final resolution is reportedly pending completion for EBS 7.2.
