TITLE:
NetBSD "sysctl()" Local Denial of Service Vulnerability

SECUNIA ADVISORY ID:
SA19616

VERIFY ADVISORY:
http://secunia.com/advisories/19616/

CRITICAL:
Not critical

IMPACT:
DoS

WHERE:
Local system

OPERATING SYSTEM:
NetBSD 1.x
http://secunia.com/product/255/

DESCRIPTION:
A vulnerability has been reported in NetBSD, which can be exploited
by malicious, local users to cause a DoS (Denial of Service).

The user-supplied buffer used for storing results from "sysctl()"
calls is locked into physical memory without checking its size
against system limits. This can be exploited to exhaust all available
memory on a system.

SOLUTION:
Fixes are not available for the 1.6 branch. Upgrade to a later
version for which fixes are available (see vendor advisory for
additional information).

PROVIDED AND/OR DISCOVERED BY:
The vendor credits Matthias Drochner.
