Vulnerability in Macromedia Flash Player Could Allow Remote Code Execution

The Fortinet Security Research Team has discovered multiple improper memory access vulnerabilities in Macromedia Flash Player.

Summary:

When a user visits a website which contains .swf files, the web browser will start flash player to play the content. An attacker can create a malformed .swf file that when opened by certain versions of Macromedia Flash Player, will result in the execution of arbitrary commands. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to take complete control of the affected system.

Impact:

Execution of arbitrary code leading to system compromise.

Additional Information:

These vulnerabilities were first reported to the vendor on June 9 2006. Macromedia has since fixed this vulnerabilities in the latest versions of Flash player.

Solution:

Macromedia Flash Player users should apply the update provided by Macromedia.
